Founded in 1866 as Hotel d’Autriche, the Hotel Sacher Salzburg is located on the banks of the Salzach River, opposite the city's historic center, overlooking the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Since 1988, it has belonged to the Gürtler family, who are also responsible for the Hotel Sacher Wien and the creation of the Original Sacher Torte. The hotel has 113 rooms and suites with individual classic décor, marble bathrooms, and some accommodations with views of the river or the old town. Gastronomy is one of its main attractions, with highlights including the Zirbelzimmer restaurant, recognized by European gastronomic guides, the Café Sacher Salzburg, with its riverside terrace and the traditional Original Sacher Torte, as well as a piano bar and a wine list widely acclaimed in Austria.
